The Value of Funerals for Children
Attending a funeral and participating in it can be a positive experience for children of any age. However, children need to be prepared for a funeral, and they need to be supported during the experience. This 90-minute program, created by the Hospice Foundation of America, and funded by a grant from the Funeral Service Foundation, seeks to educate professionals who work with children, families, and guardians so that they can, in turn, educate families about the value of funerals for children.
This FREE educational program combines a moderated discussion and informative interviews. Video moderator Frank Sesno Frank Sesno is director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at the George Washington University. He is joined by Expert Panelists Tashel C. Bordere, PhD, CT, Kenneth J. Doka, PhD, MDiv, William G. Hoy, DMin, FT, and Denise Rollins, PhD, MA.
Available in English and Spanish, our Youth & Funerals resource helps to debunk the common myths that prevent youth from attending or participating in funerals, offer age-appropriate language and advice on discussing death and funerals with youth, and give suggestions for youth preparedness, empowerment and involvement in memorialization.
